Arunprasath.M, Mr.M.Mohana Sundharam

MANET refers to network designed for special application for which it is difficult to use a backbone network. In MANET, applications are involved with sensitive and secret Information. Since the MANET assumes a trusted environment for routing, security is major issue. In this paper the vulnerabilities of a reactive routing protocol called AODV protocol in MANET is analyzed. Analyzing the attack, a mechanism is proposed to secure the AODV protocol from specific routing attack known as PACKET DROP ATTACK where the malicious node acts as a blackhole and drops packets. The simulator used for this proposed mechanism is NS2 simulator, which is able to detect any number of malicious nodes and improves PDR and through put and also reduces the packet drop.
